This D&D battlemap features a Greco-Roman bathhouse, perfect for luxurious city settings or eerie visions — especially with the included bloodbath variant. I have been told that it’s also useful for the bathhouse scene in Tomb of Annihilation.
Designed with historical accuracy in mind, this map closely follows Roman architecture, with labeled rooms to clarify their functions. The hypocaust-heated saunas may differ slightly from their modern counterparts, but everything else remains true to classical bathhouses such as those found in Pompeii.
The layout includes two separate bath sections, divided by a servant’s chamber that maintains the furnace heat. Traditionally, the upper pools were for men and the lower for women, but you can customize the setting however you like.
This is a remaster of a Miscellanea Maps classic!
Thoughts
- Picture a colossal, pale, translucent centipede-like creature that dwells in the water — nearly invisible excepting those moments when it has to skitter from bath to bath. Did it get in from the hot springs’ lightless shaft?
- A chanting oracle skeleton rises from the depths, proclaiming bloody death upon the bath-builders & bathers for disrupting the springs, drowning everyone in earshot with lungs full of boiling mineral water.
- Use the Bloodbath variant for a prophetic nightmare sequence or battle. Put everyone on edge when they encounter the real bathhouse weeks later.
- The town (or the local corrupt guild/city watch, if your players are all goody two-shoes) finds out what the party did and mobs them while they’re trying to relax.
